Santa Maria Float report – Nov.2011

Float Co-ordinator’s Report – Sept 18.2011 Here’s an update on the Santa Maria – In June, the assembly received a request from brother Jim Brown, a 4th degree member of Our Lady of the Valley Council 10889 at St Luke’s Parish and Pope John Paul II 4th Degree Assembly Maple Ridge.

Sk Jim had contacted our very own SK Wayne Turner with regards to the loaning of our Santa Maria float for a theatre production at the Maple Ridge Act. A gentleman by the name of Rayen Beveridge who manages a Amateur Youth Theatre Group in the Maple Ridge area asked if they could borrow the Santa Maria for a production of the Pirates of Penzance at the ACT in Maple Ridge on July 16th {Sat}. Mr Beveridge said they will NOT be climbing on/off the ship, it will simply be a special “prop” to add to the authenticity to the play.

He said all K of C Logos, signs, etc, can be displayed on the ship while it sits on the stage through the performance. To make a long story short, it was on display at “The Act” in Maple Ridge on the 3rd weekend in July and whilst we do not have official figures, it goes without saying that such a large and well recognized prop has done quite a bit for promulgating the cause of the Knights of Columbus. Maple Ridge council was very appreciative. Then, I had to get it all ready for the Penticton group. Pentiction council picked it up in Agassiz for Aug 5 th weekend parade.

It was returned next day, Sunday, Aug 6. This involved loading it onto my dump trailer to transport it. Everything went off well. I have received a thank you letter and pictures of Penticton parade which I will bring to the General Meeting. Rick McArthur Wayne Turner
